Tomer Sharon is a leading voice on the topics of design thinking, user experience, and lean research methodology. Tomer is Managing Director, Head of User Research & Metrics at Goldman Sachs. He is the author of two books, Validating Product Ideas (2016) and, It’s Our Research (2012). Previously, Tomer was Head of User Experience at WeWork and Sr. User Experience Researcher at Google Search. He has mentored organizations (large and small) on user research methodology, has given keynotes, and taught workshops in 13 countries. Tomer holds a master’s degree in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Dalia El-Shimy is an engineer-turned-academic-turned-user-researcher. As a UX Research Lead at Shopify's Montreal office, she manages research efforts when it comes online shopping experiences: from the merchants who create them, to their customers who interact with them.
Before joining Shopify, she completed a PhD in electrical engineering at McGill University, and a bachelor of applied mathematics and engineering at Queen’s University. During her time at McGill, her work was largely focused on the intersection of human-computer interaction and music technology, and particularly the applicability of human-centred techniques to the design of new musical interfaces. She was also the teaching assistant for McGill’s human-computer interaction course for five years, during which she taught engineering students how to incorporate user research techniques into how they design, build, and test products.
Dalia still enjoys teaching anyone who'll listen about user research, whether it's through university guest lectures, conference talks, articles, or tailored workshops and seminars. Aside from that, she spends way too much time at her local ice cream shop, or obsessing over all things David Bowie.
Dave Hora has been working as a researcher for the last 9 years. As the first researcher in each, he established a formal research program at one consultancy and four late-stage startups in Silicon Valley. At PlanGrid, Dave developed the research function into a strategic partner for Design, Product, and Engineering, building the team from one to three total researchers.
Recently, Dave moved to Denver Colorado, and is developing a consulting practice as Principal at Dave’s Research Company, Ltd. That practice includes three types of work: strategic research projects; coaching individual researchers; and flipping the research lens to the inside, helping organizations uncover, model, and redesign their product delivery processes.
Dr. Bill Albert is Executive Director of the User Experience Center (UXC) at Bentley University. Prior to joining Bentley, Albert was Director of User Experience at Fidelity Investments, Senior User Interface Researcher at Lycos, and Post-doctoral Research Scientist at Nissan Cambridge Basic Research. Albert currently teaches in the graduate program in Human Factors in Information Design at Bentley University. Albert has published and presented his research at more than 30 national and international conferences. He co-wrote (with Tom Tullis) the first book on usability metrics, “Measuring the User Experience: Collecting, Analyzing, and Presenting Usability Metrics.” He also co-wrote (with Tom Tullis and Donna Tedesco), “Beyond the Usability Lab: Conducting Large-Scale Online User Experience Studies.” Albert is Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Usability Studies.
